The News, Explained
Apple announced expanded language support, including Korean, for its redesigned Health app on November 3. The stated availability today is the iOS 27.3 developer beta. A developer beta is a test release for developers before general availability. A free software update for users is planned later this year; Apple gives no exact general-release date. The language list and the stage of delivery both matter when checking access. Source
Apple Intelligence is Apple’s set of AI features integrated into its operating systems. The redesign requires a compatible iPhone or iPad with the latest software. Some features are iPhone-only, availability can vary by region and language, and some features require users to be at least 18. Apple’s general Intelligence support page lists devices including iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, M1-or-later iPads and iPad mini with A17 Pro. Device and Siri languages must match a supported language. The general Apple Intelligence guide also lists up to 8GB or 14GB of storage for supported iPhone and iPad models, depending on hardware. The Health app’s beta and rollout conditions apply in addition to those general requirements. Source · Source
A new Insights tab summarizes information across areas including heart, sleep, fitness, vitals and cycle tracking. The For You section provides suggestions based on daily habits. Apple’s example concerns adjusting a wind-down routine after several nights of interrupted sleep. Apple presents this as an example of the feature’s intended use. Source
The Longevity tab examines longer-term data across areas such as heart health, sleep and movement. Apple describes Health Age as a metric relating Apple Watch data, including heart, sleep and aerobic-fitness measures, to chronological age. Users can also add clinical information such as laboratory results. Source
Sensor requirements differ by feature. Health Age requires an Apple Watch. For the test estimating VO2 max, an indicator of maximum oxygen use associated with aerobic fitness, Apple lists an Apple Watch, AirPods Pro 3 or a third-party heart-rate sensing device. Those alternatives apply to the VO2 max test; Health Age has its own Watch requirement. Source
At-home movement evaluations use an iPhone camera and Apple Watch to provide audio and visual feedback on flexibility, strength, balance and movement. Apple says this experience uses on-device vision AI, with no video recorded, stored or shared. The on-device description here concerns those movement evaluations. Source
OYOPICK’s Take
Korean support could make health data and its explanations easier to read. Access guidance should connect language, rollout stage, devices and sensors in one place. Owning an eligible iPhone, for example, leaves the separate Watch requirement for Health Age in place. A feature-by-feature view would help readers distinguish equipment needs from an update they are still waiting for.
Reducing several measurements to an age-like number may make a summary approachable, while increasing the importance of explaining which data and changes affect it. Showing missing inputs and the underlying trends could help readers interpret the result. We hope clearer explanations accompany the language expansion, helping readers interpret the new metric alongside its inputs and the underlying measurements.
