GitHub expanded the HydraFusion research preview to Visual Studio Code and the GitHub Copilot app on September 30, 2026. It appears in a model picker, although it coordinates models rather than representing one model. Depending on the request, it can use a single model, check an initial answer before escalating, or have a second model review a draft before one revision. Source

How to access it

In VS Code, GitHub specifies version 1.140 or later, or the Insiders build. Users select HydraFusion from the Copilot Chat model picker and can enable chat.copilot.hydraFusion.enabled if the option is missing. In the Copilot app, users update the app, turn HydraFusion on in Settings and then select it from the picker. Organization administrators may need to allow preview features. Source

Who can use it

GitHub lists Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business and Enterprise as eligible plans. Auto chooses a model for each request; HydraFusion may also coordinate multiple models within one request. GitHub calls this a research preview, so teams should evaluate its current behavior before making it part of a fixed workflow. Source
