The News, Explained
Google announced a pre-generation review flow for Gemini Notebook’s Slide Decks and Video Overviews on October 19, 2026. Users can agree on topics and structure from their own sources before the output is produced. The capabilities are rolling out globally to all users over the week following the announcement. Source
To begin the new flow, a user asks in chat for slides or a video overview. Notebook proposes topics based on the sources. After confirming those topics, the user can give more direction on content, visual style and format. This adds a stage for agreeing on the direction between the first request and the finished output. Turning on Review lets users inspect the plan in the studio panel, where the creation tools sit. For slides, the control is called “Review outline notes”; for video it is “Review producer notes.” Users can read those planning notes and provide feedback before rendering, the step that produces the actual slides or video. Google’s examples include adding an executive summary at the beginning or changing the order of a scene. Once the plan looks right, selecting “Proceed” produces the final artifact. Source
Users who already have a clear structure in mind can describe it in the initial prompt and go straight to the review flow. For a quick first output, they can still choose the artifact type in studio and skip Review, as before. The workflow therefore offers a choice between shaping the plan and going directly to generation. Source
OYOPICK’s Take
The value here is a place to discuss the sequence before seeing a finished output. Leading with a presentation’s conclusion requires a different structure from building up its background, even with the same sources. Comparing that intention with planning notes before generation could help users communicate the flow they want to the AI.
Direct generation may be useful for a draft intended to quickly explore material; a presentation or video for other people may warrant more attention to the plan. Reviewing whether the notes match the intended structure and checking the finished output’s facts and wording remain separate tasks. How faithfully the final output follows feedback given during planning will be an important measure of this workflow’s practical value.
