The News, Explained
PlayStation announced Part 1 of Gran Turismo 7’s major Spec IV update on October 14. The stated start is October 14 at 11pm PDT, equivalent to October 15 at 15:00 KST. It is a free update for existing GT7 players, and downloading it requires an internet connection. The announcement date and the scheduled availability fall on different local dates. Source
Part 1 adds Sportsland Sugo, six vehicles and six World Circuit events. A circuit is the course to drive; events are race activities within the game. The vehicle and event counts are each six. Scapes, which lets players photograph cars against different settings, also gains locations. What a player explores first can depend on their interest in driving, collecting cars or taking photographs. Source
The new vehicles have three different in-game purchase destinations. Brand Central is the brand-based vehicle showroom, Used Cars is the used-car dealership, and Legend Cars is the outlet for legendary vehicles. The announcement assigns the six additions as follows. Source
| New vehicle | In-game purchase destination |
|---|---|
| Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo | Brand Central |
| Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Evo ’26 | Brand Central |
| Honda Step WGN Spada Premium Line ’23 | Brand Central |
| Ferrari F355 Berlinetta ’94 | Used Cars |
| Citroën 2 CV 6 Charleston ’86 | Used Cars |
| Honda Civic Si Group A version ’87 | Legend Cars |
The price of receiving the update and the conditions for acquiring cars are separate. The source’s footnote requires credits to purchase vehicles. Credits are the game’s currency, obtainable through game progression or payment. Choosing a new car therefore involves its purchase destination and the player’s available credits. The announcement supplies no credit prices for these six vehicles. Source
The DualSense wireless controller – Gran Turismo Limited Edition announced alongside the update is a separately sold physical gamepad. Its limited-edition design uses racing stripes, motorsport graphics and a carbon-fibre-style surface. The US recommended retail price is $84.99, while actual retailer prices may vary. Global release is scheduled to start December 10, in limited quantities. Source
Controller pre-orders are planned from October 22 through supported PlayStation direct-sales channels and participating retailers. The specific US direct-sales time is 10am ET, or US Eastern Time, that day. The source provides no Korean retailer, local pre-order time or won price. The software update, in-game vehicle purchases and physical-controller reservation have their own timelines and conditions. Source
OYOPICK’s Take
We find the range of vehicles added alongside a new circuit particularly useful to consider. The list includes an electric concept car, racing machinery, a family minivan and an older small car. Alongside improving lap times on a new course, players can set goals around collecting or photographing cars they like. For people who use the new locations and vehicles in those ways, the update could broaden what they enjoy.
A useful starting point is connecting a desired car to its in-game purchase destination. The option to use credits earned through progression leaves room to plan the cost of exploring new content. The separate limited-edition controller calls for its own judgment about collectible value and budget. We hope vehicle prices and detailed update conditions are presented in ways that make comparison straightforward, helping players decide which new car or activity to pursue first.
