The News, Explained
On November 5, Aina unveiled a smart ring with a screen and a control button. The ring draws on the wearer’s routine to display one suggested action at a time. Aina calls each suggestion a Cue. Swipe up with your thumb to run it, or leave it alone and it won’t run. You can also hold down the button to make a voice request. Source Source
The ring can also control something already underway. You can pause or skip a song while music is playing, for instance, or mute the microphone during a video call on your Mac. Meeting controls need a nearby Mac running the Aina app. You connect services in Aina’s iPhone app and connect your Mac through its own Aina app. Aina lists iPhone and Mac support at launch. Aina says the product learns routines on your devices. Its separate privacy policy says the company may access and store calendar data if you grant permission. The policy also names Anthropic as an outside provider that processes requests for some AI features. The way the product learns your routine and the way connected services handle information are two separate parts of how it works. Source Source
Preorders opened on November 5, with a limited number of rings starting at US$399. Aina plans to start shipping in January 2027. Delivery availability and cost appear when you enter an address at checkout. A free sizing kit ships first, and you can cancel up until it ships. After that, you can return the ring within 14 days of delivery. Customers who reserved with a US$10 or US$20 deposit have 30 days. Buyers pay return shipping for ordinary returns. Source Source
OYOPICK’s Take
Muting a call and booking a paid ride may both take a thumb gesture, but they call for different information. To mute a call, you want to see the current microphone status. To book a ride, you want to see the destination and estimated fare. Handling that difference on a small screen could make controls easier to reach while keeping the decision in your hands. Aina uses ride booking as an example, but its guide doesn’t show which booking details are visible just before approval. We’d like to see the ring show the details that matter before confirming a purchase, or let you pick up on the iPhone when the decision needs more room. Source Source
