The News, Explained
Kakao announced 내 명의 보호 on October 22, 2026. The feature adds verification through an existing account when identity-verification information is newly registered on another Kakao account using the same identity. Registration here connects identity information to an account. Source
The existing account receives the check. Users can select 허용하기 (“Allow”) in its KakaoTalk message or enter a code sent to its email. This lets them confirm their own request and block an unwanted registration attempt. Source
The switch is under Kakao Account → Account Security in KakaoTalk settings, and in Account Security on the Kakao Account website. It can be enabled or disabled. The extra confirmation described in the announcement concerns the stage of newly registering identity information on another account. Source
OYOPICK’s Take
The useful design choice is giving an account already linked to your identity a say in a new registration. That creates a point where the user can decide whether to accept another connection, potentially making the use of identity information more understandable.
The two delivery routes deserve clear explanations together. Showing which existing account receives a request and what registration it would permit could help people judge an approval prompt. We hope the setting makes the connection between its security label and the particular stage it protects easy to understand.
