The News, Explained
KakaoMap has a dedicated map for the 21st Busan Fireworks Festival through November 7. Search for ‘부산불꽃축제’ in KakaoMap to find viewing areas, booths, amenities and the event schedule in one place. The festival takes place on November 7 around Gwangalli Beach, Igidae and Dongbaekseom. Source
The map labels each area with one of three live crowd levels: clear, crowded or very crowded. If you have a viewing area in mind and a second spot as a backup, for example, you can compare the two areas to see where crowds are gathering. The three levels describe how busy each area is. Source
To find someone in your group, open ‘친구위치’ below the KakaoMap search bar or in the ‘+’ menu of a KakaoTalk chat. The crowd map shows how busy an area is; this feature shows where people who have shared their location with the group are. According to KakaoMap’s guide, a timed group in the latest app starts at one hour by default, and participants can adjust the sharing period up to six hours. The group can also mark a meeting spot on its map. Source Source
OYOPICK’s Take
At the festival, it may be easier to agree on a meeting spot first than to keep watching everyone’s location. If friends start from different areas, they could pick a spot using the crowd map and use a timed group just while making their way there. That lets them share their locations for the time they need to meet. We’d like the festival map to show when each crowd reading was updated right beside the level, so people can judge how recent it is before they move. Source Source
