The News, Explained
Quarantine Zone: The Last Check has received the Miami Zero expansion. Xbox Wire’s October 15, 2026 announcement says it is available on Xbox Series X|S and PC, including through Xbox and PC Game Pass, and is free to owners of the original game. The free offer concerns the expansion provided to base-game owners. Source
Quarantine Zone puts players in charge of a checkpoint during a zombie outbreak, inspecting survivors for symptoms and deciding who can pass. Miami Zero is DLC, additional content that extends the existing game. Its new campaign returns to Miami at the beginning of the outbreak. A campaign is a connected set of story events and missions. A returning player faces a broader inspection task. Alongside infection symptoms, the checkpoint now needs to detect concealed contraband. Items can be hidden under hats, swallowed or held inside a fist, adding different places to examine with the screening tools. The developers also describe new symptoms involving scars, damaged organs and parasites. Source
More than 30 unique survivors have been added, with distinct appearances, dialogue and personalities. The announcement also describes more body types, animations and reactions. These are the developers’ content descriptions; how much they change inspection difficulty or repeat-play enjoyment is a separate question for assessment through play. Source
Decisions extend beyond the inspection line. A new research centre allows experiments on infected people, with results that can include mutants threatening the checkpoint. A campaign-spanning mission asks players to repair a ship and escape. Immediate decisions about individual survivors therefore sit alongside longer objectives in the new story. Source
New locations include a pier, city streets and a music festival. Dynamic weather changes between sunshine, dust storms and tropical rain, and the developers describe improved environmental audio. The original campaign has also been adjusted and improved. The announcement identifies platforms and the free expansion offer without detailing country-level prices or Game Pass plan-by-plan conditions. Source
OYOPICK’s Take
For a returning player, the most useful question is what changes the checkpoint’s decisions. Concealed items add another kind of clue to infection screening, while research and ship repairs create longer objectives. These additions offer different things to observe and different goals on which to spend time within the same checkpoint-management premise.
For that variety to ease repetition, clues need to remain readable and the experiment and escape missions need to connect well with the inspection flow. A content announcement cannot establish that balance. Existing owners nevertheless have an opportunity to examine the changed decision structure without an additional expansion charge. Someone considering the game for the first time should separate access to the base game from the expansion’s free offer.
