The News, Explained
On November 6, Nintendo said it will release a Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle on November 26 in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. Each notice lists the same contents: a Switch 2 console, a full download of Mario Kart World, and a code for three months of Nintendo Switch Online Individual membership. The game comes as an internet download. None of the three notices lists a bundle price. Source Source Source
The game download requires a Nintendo Account set to the country of the bundle. For the Singapore package that means Singapore; for the Malaysian and Thai packages it means Malaysia and Thailand respectively. All three notices attach that requirement to downloading the game from Nintendo eShop. For example, someone who buys the Singapore package and tries to download the game using an account set to Korea would not meet the stated download requirement. Source Source Source
The three-month code is for an individual membership, which lets players race online with others. GameChat, another membership feature, requires internet access and a Nintendo Account; video chat also needs a compatible USB camera sold separately. The bundle announcements list the membership and the game download conditions separately. Source Source Source
OYOPICK’s Take
If you see the package while traveling, compare its download requirement with the account you plan to use before counting the included game toward the bundle’s value. Nintendo Support says an eShop balance does not carry over when you change the country on your account. Changing it for one game can mean spending an existing balance first. Identical game names on a store shelf can make the packages look interchangeable, but the account you can use to download the game affects what you get. We’d like to see the country requirement next to the list of contents on the box or sales page, where buyers can spot it before paying. Source Source Source Source
