The News, Explained
Xbox announced its weekend Free Play Days lineup on October 15, 2026. It divides into five games for members of selected Game Pass plans and a three-hour trial of The Alters without a subscription requirement. Free Play Days provides game trials within a specified event period. Source
NBA starts later than the other subscription games
Crusader Kings III, Bus Simulator 21 Next Stop, Soccer Story and Ravenswatch are available October 15–18 for Game Pass Ultimate, Premium or Essential members. NBA 2K27 Standard Edition requires one of the same plans but starts at noon PDT on October 16. That is 4 a.m. in South Korea on October 17; its announced U.S. end date is October 18. Source
Three hours of The Alters without Game Pass
All Xbox players can try The Alters without Game Pass through a three-hour timed trial during October 15–18. Both the event window and the amount of playable time are limited. Its participation conditions differ from those of the subscription games. Source
Installation is available through individual game detail pages on Xbox.com leading to Microsoft Store. Members must sign in to see their subscription installation option. On consoles, Xbox directs users to the Free Play Days collection under the Store’s Subscriptions tab on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Game-specific hardware support still applies: the announcement specifically lists Xbox Series X|S for Crusader Kings III. Source
Buying a game or its edition allows continued play after the event while keeping earned Gamerscore and achievements. Gamerscore is a score accumulated through game achievements. Discounts and title availability can vary by game and region. Source
OYOPICK’s Take
Available play time is useful to consider before genre. Someone choosing The Alters can plan to assess whether it suits them within three hours. For South Korean players waiting for NBA 2K27, its later start early on Saturday directly affects that choice.
A subscription-free trial is a welcome way to introduce a game to more people. We would also like installation screens to make remaining trial time, ending conditions and supported hardware clear. Understanding how much time is actually available can make choosing the right trial more useful than counting the games on offer.
