The News, Explained
Xbox announced seven games for Free Play Days from October 8 through October 11, 2026. Free Play Days provides temporary access to selected games, but this lineup uses three different forms of ‘free’: weekend access that requires Game Pass, weekend access for all Xbox members and trials with a play-time limit. The announcement says the event runs through October 11 without giving an exact cutoff time or time zone. Source
Screamer and Family Man are available for the weekend to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and Essential members. Players must sign in to the Microsoft Store to see an eligible install option. On Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, the collection appears under the Store’s Subscriptions tab. The announcement does not extend full-weekend access for these two games to non-members or other account types. Source
ARC Raiders is open to all Xbox members from October 8 through October 11, with no Game Pass membership required. Xbox presents this as full-weekend access rather than a short timed trial. A separate sale discounts the base game, Deluxe Edition and Deluxe upgrade by 50 percent through October 15, but actual prices and availability can differ across regional Microsoft Store listings. High On Life 2, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, Little Nightmares III and Rogue Waters are time-limited trials for all Xbox players. They do not provide unrestricted access for the entire weekend. The official article specifies a two-hour trial for Rogue Waters but does not state the time allowance for the other three games. Players need to check each install page for their remaining trial time and regional availability. Source
Continuing after the event requires buying the game. Xbox says a purchased copy keeps the Gamerscore and achievements earned during the event. Discount percentages, eligible editions and title availability can vary by game and region. The price, edition and install option displayed in a player’s regional Microsoft Store are therefore the operative conditions. Source
OYOPICK’s Take
OYOPICK thinks the useful question in a free-play promotion is not how many games appear, but who can play each one and for how long. This lineup combines full-weekend access and timed trials, as well as member-only and all-member offers. Missing that distinction could make someone overlook a game that needs no subscription or mistake a short trial for weekend-long access. That judgment follows directly from the announced eligibility rules.
If Xbox consistently shows the required membership, remaining trial time, regional cutoff and the save data that carries into a purchase beside every install button, events like this could become practical tools for checking personal taste and device performance before buying. Actual availability and cutoff times can still vary by account and regional Store listing.
