The News, Explained
On November 3, PlayStation said PS5 players who pre-order GTA VI can start downloading it on November 10. Preloading means getting the installation files before release. PlayStation’s Korean support page lists November 19 at local midnight as the time the PS5 game becomes playable. Source Source
Digital preloads start on November 10 for both consoles, but the clocks differ. PS5 uses local midnight, so in Korea it starts at 12 a.m. on the 10th. Xbox Series X|S uses a single worldwide start at 12 a.m. GMT. Korea is nine hours ahead of GMT, so the Xbox download starts at 9 a.m. in Korea that same day. That Xbox time applies to the download. Check how much space is free before downloading. Sony advises PS5 players to clear at least 212 GB. Rockstar says the preload may require up to 212 GB of free space, depending on the device. Both statements describe room to leave available; neither establishes that the file downloaded on every console is the same 212 GB. Source Source Source
If you pre-ordered through PlayStation Store, you can check the order in your account history and review your PS5 automatic download settings. PlayStation’s Korean support page says the boxed PS5 version contains a download code in place of a disc. For a buyer choosing the box, getting and redeeming that code is a separate step from the start time announced for Store pre-orders. Source
OYOPICK’s Take
Imagine a player in Korea who uses both consoles and wants to be ready on launch day. The preload starts nine hours apart, but with several days to get the files, available space and a completed download may matter more than being online at midnight. We’d use Sony’s 212 GB guidance to plan how much space to clear on PS5, then check progress on the console after the download opens. The start time alone cannot tell you when the files will be ready.
