The News, Explained

Hyundai unveiled the Elantra N Monochrome edition of its high-performance sedan on October 19. The model uses a restrained combination of exterior and interior colors and materials. Korean sales are planned for late October, with launches also planned in Canada and Australia and details for other markets to follow. Source

Prospective buyers can start by separating the two trim configurations. A trim is an equipment configuration offered within the same car model. Basic Trim combines a black-themed design with Alcantara, a material used for interior surfaces. Upper Trim adds a carbon-fiber rear spoiler and mirrors. The rear spoiler is the wing-shaped component at the back of the car. Source

The two announced body colors are Abyss Black Pearl and Performance Blue, subject to market availability. Hyundai also lists a Monochrome-only Alcantara steering wheel, black-finished steering-wheel buttons, and newly designed forged wheels. Forging shapes metal through applied pressure. Source

The global announcement says availability, specifications, pricing and production volumes may differ by market. Additional information will come through local sales channels. Buyers considering the Korean launch can therefore use the two announced configurations as a starting point, then compare them with the actual Korean equipment and price information. Source

OYOPICK’s Take

We would separate two preferences when comparing this edition: wanting the restrained color treatment, and wanting the additional carbon-fiber exterior components. Reading Basic and Upper Trim separately helps connect the exterior details in the photographs with the configuration a buyer is considering.

The reason to choose Upper Trim can be assessed more concretely once the local price difference is published. Specifications and color choices may vary under the same Monochrome name, so the final comparison should use the equipment and price lists for the market where the car will be purchased.
