The News, Explained
On October 22, 2026, Netflix announced a partnership with hoichoi, a Bengali-first online viewing service and content studio. The announcement describes audiences across India and sets out three tracks: selected existing series, new premieres and newly produced adaptations. Source
The existing collection includes 14 selected hoichoi titles, spanning crime and detective stories, folklore horror, social and courtroom dramas, and romance. The announcement does not give one release date for the entire collection. Source
All hoichoi series premiering over the next two years are planned for Netflix exclusively in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. New releases will arrive in those languages alongside their Bengali debut on hoichoi. The exclusivity therefore concerns the specified combination of languages and service. Source
The first named new release is the folklore horror series The Cursed Temple of Kauriburi, planned for November 6, with more titles following in the coming months. That schedule belongs to the new-release track, separately from the collection of 14 existing titles. Source
The partners also plan original series produced by hoichoi studios that reimagine selected hoichoi stories. An adaptation turns an existing story into a newly produced work. This differs from making an already produced series available through another viewing service. Details of the adaptations will be announced later. Source
OYOPICK’s Take
The plan to align three language versions with a Bengali premiere is the most useful part of this deal for viewers to follow. If the releases arrive as announced, people who prefer Hindi, Tamil or Telugu could have more opportunities to follow a new story when its original version appears.
There is also a useful distinction between discovering an existing series and waiting for an adaptation. One offers a route into a finished story; the other invites interest in how a production team will reinterpret it. We see clearer choices in those specific differences of language, service and production, beyond the scale of a partnership.
