The News, Explained

SK Telecom announced AX Innovation 2.0 on November 1, expanding its internal AI effort toward redesigning work across the organization. AX means AI transformation. The company is connecting employees’ use of individual tools with changes to workflows and collaboration. Higher productivity is the goal; the release supplies no measured organization-wide improvement rate. Source

An AI agent here means an AI tool built to perform particular tasks. SKT says more than 4,000 employees have tried building agents this year and about 1,500 agents are used regularly inside the company. These are company-reported adoption counts: one concerns people and the other concerns tools in regular use. They should be distinguished from measurements of time or money saved. Source

Data access, system connections and security are among the obstacles the initiative addresses. SKT says it developed Z.E.Z, a design that keeps sensitive original data in a separate area and sends AI the results needed for a task. The company lists metadata and calculated values as examples. Metadata describes the meaning or context of data. These details are SKT’s account of the technical design and its patent application. Source

Other work concerns finding and understanding information. SKT has established Data Desk to generate explanations and business context for data automatically. It is also pursuing Work Map, in which AI first examines existing work materials and goals, then maps the workflow through conversations with employees. The plan is to define procedures for people and AI working together and identify tasks suitable for agents. Source

Three programs provide different forms of support. The AX Enabler task force improves shared education, support, data and security infrastructure. Its responsibilities also include developing employee-style identifiers and an evaluation framework for agents. AX Sandbox redesigns work from the beginning. In the first half of the year, a service development team tested one employee handling planning, development and verification with agents. In the second half, SKT is broadening the effort to collaboration among multiple employees and agents. Source

AX Catalyst spreads practical experience and identifies shared obstacles. SKT says it selected the first 10 participants in September and supports their model usage costs and technical and data connections. When they encounter problems involving data, permissions, systems or security, they work with the Enabler task force to address them. Source

OYOPICK’s Take

The connection worth examining is the path from an obstacle encountered at work to a shared support team. If an agent builder gets stuck on data permissions or system integration, the experience becomes an organization-level improvement task. When that connection works in practice, it could reduce the burden of different teams solving the same problem repeatedly.

The next evidence for judging results would show how this connection changes actual work. Follow-up cases could explain whether access to necessary data improved in a workflow mapped through Work Map, and how the quality of results changed when agents participated. That would make the organizational effect easier to assess. We hope the link between employees’ experience and shared support broadens the opportunity for more people to use AI.
