The News, Explained
SK Telecom added a voice-spam report feature to A. Phone on October 12, 2026, connecting reports to the Korea Internet & Security Agency, or KISA. The company describes it as the first expansion of this simplified reporting route from phone makers’ default dialers to a Korean mobile carrier’s phone app. Source
Reporting starts in A. Phone’s recent-call history. A user reviews the recorded call and taps Report and block spam, without writing a separate description. The call recording and originating phone number are then submitted automatically to KISA. SK Telecom says KISA uses the material for more detailed analysis and anti-spam responses, including number blocking. Source
Availability differs by operating system. On Android, A. Phone is available regardless of the user’s mobile carrier. On iPhone, the phone function is accessed inside the A. app and is limited to SK Telecom subscribers. The announcement does not specify a required app version or the storage and deletion rules for submitted call recordings. Source
A. Phone now covers three stages: AI Safe Blocking before a call, voice-phishing and spam warnings during a call, and reporting after the call. SK Telecom says AI Safe Blocking stopped about 110 million suspected voice-phishing and spam calls from January through September 2026, while the in-call feature displayed about 3.9 million warnings. These are the company’s service-operation figures. Source
OYOPICK’s Take
OYOPICK sees value in reducing the work of reconstructing a suspicious call and attaching evidence for a report. Reviewing the recording and handling the report and block action from recent-call history removes steps from that process. More reports sent to one agency could provide more material for identifying repeated numbers and tactics, but the announcement does not establish that one report immediately produces a spam ruling or a block for every user.
A call recording contains the conversation itself. To balance convenience with user control, the report screen should clearly show what will be sent to KISA and why before submission, while keeping the recording available for review. We hope the service also makes retention, deletion and correction procedures easy to find when a report was submitted by mistake.
