The News, Explained
On October 22, 2026, PlayStation published a guide to Photo Mode in Marvel’s Wolverine. Photo Mode lets players adjust a scene’s camera, character and lighting to create an image. This guide connects the official instructions into a sequence for a player running the game on PS5: prepare shortcuts, arrange the lighting and inspect a saved screenshot. Source Source
1. Prepare Photo Mode and speed shortcuts
The default route is Photo Mode in the Pause menu. For frequent use, open the game’s Settings and assign a Photo Mode shortcut to the DualSense D-Pad, the controller’s directional buttons. Another direction can be assigned to game-speed adjustment. The official guide lists reductions of 30%, 50% and 70%. These figures describe the reduction: a 30% reduction, for example, leaves the game running at 70% of its original speed. Source
After setting it, check that the chosen direction opens Photo Mode. Speed reduction can help select a moving moment, allowing the entry action and scene selection to be practiced separately. If the controls obscure the composition, the guide says the Photo Mode panel can alternate between the left and right sides. Source
2. Start with one or two lights
Photo Mode offers up to five independent lights, with separate color, intensity, distance and other controls. Sphere spreads a wider glow from its center; Spotlight sends a stronger beam in one direction. Start with one light in front of or beside the character and observe how changing its position or strength changes the face and background. Source
A second, weaker light can be placed behind the subject. The main light from the front is the key light; a rear light outlining the shoulders or hair is a rim light. Those are the roles described in the official guide. As an exercise, changing one light’s position or intensity at a time may make it easier to connect a setting with the difference on screen. Source
3. Recheck the light origin after moving the character
Character Pose includes options for posture and position. Logan can be moved up, down, forward, back and sideways within the available area, as well as rotated. When changing suits or claws, the available choices are those already unlocked. Source
There is a condition to remember before moving him. The five lights orbit Logan’s original position when Photo Mode was entered. Moving the character later does not move that origin to his new position. After relocating him, compare where the lights point with where he now stands and readjust them to illuminate the intended area. If his face or outline becomes dark after a change of position, that relationship is a useful place to look first. Source
4. Inspect the saved image
Once the composition is ready, press the DualSense create button to open the PS5 create menu and select Take Screenshot. PlayStation’s support instructions note that capture is restricted for some content. Source
After capture, select the latest thumbnail in the create menu or open the saved file in Media Gallery from the games home. Selecting a thumbnail opens the capture full-screen. Check whether the character is framed as intended, the light reaches the new position and any control panel remains in the result. Comparing the saved image with the setting you meant to change provides a final check for this exercise. Source
OYOPICK’s Take
We see the possibility of using Photo Mode as a virtual lighting workshop. Comparing one light’s position or intensity within the same scene could help players understand which choice creates a mood, alongside enjoying an image that turns out well. Starting with one or two lights keeps that comparison more manageable than changing all five together.
The separation between character position and lighting origin is especially useful to understand in this game. Connecting a visible result with a changed setting can turn trial and error into information for the next attempt. Finishing by reopening the saved image could make this a small exercise in judging one’s own framing and light.
